About Carl Olsen
Welcome to my site! My name is Carl Olsen (aka C.G. Olsen, aka Calle). A few of the hats I wear include: Norse mythologist,
poet, writer, watercolorist, illustrator, translator, editor, and blogger. I
filed my dissertation on Viking poetry about pictures of myths on shields back
in 2009 and since then have taught at UC Berkeley,
UCLA, and Gustavus Adolphus College and have pursued various freelance jobs, including translating Heavenly Bodies, a large and erudite academic work by Swedish theologian Ola Sigurdson, and creating the chapter heading illustrations for the book Mathematics for Human Flourishing by Francis Su (out now!), along with publishing several poems and selling my artwork on Etsy and Redbubble.
While I am on the look out for my next teaching position, I
am available for editing work, translation (Swedish to English), and
art/illustration commissions (watercolor, pen and ink, digital—see my gallery
for samples). Other than that, if you would like to support my work you can
visit my stores and my social media.
